Beloved refuge of the hippies of the 1960s and the number one favourite destination of partygoers all over the world from the 1990s until today, the White Island of the Balearics has sealed its reputation as the Mecca of global clubbing and a hedonistic lifestyle.
Hewn from the conquests and colonisations that have left their traces on every corner of the island, the true Ibiza is full of surprises. Admire the Carthaginian ruins of the medieval Dalt Vila (Upper Town). Discover the isolated little bays, with their crystal-clear emerald waters and enjoy epic sunsets on deserted beaches. Follow the locals on their daily paseo (afternoon stroll) along the elegant Vara de Rey promenade.

Things to do in Ibiza
Start with a walk through the magical medieval Upper Town (Dalt Vila) of the 16th century. Stand in front of the grand Portal de Ses Taules, the most imposing gateway of the Dalt Vila, adorned with the coat of arms of King Felipe II and flanked by a pair of Roman statues that were dug up during its reconstruction.
Walk over the imposing bastions (baluartes) of the Castle, a fine example of renaissance military architecture, with a view over the Mediterranean.
Explore the archaeological site of Windmill Hill (Puig des Molins), the largest Carthaginian necropolis in Ibiza. Visit the Museo Monográfico del Puig des Molins located within the site to admire the amazing finds from the over 4,000 tombs that have been found during excavations on the hill and at Es Culleram, on the northeast edge of the island.
Take a stop at the wonderful Santa María Cathedral (13th-18th century), an eclectic mix of Gothic Catalan style and Baroque elements, with the impressive Italian belfry soaring over the buildings of the town.
Explore the dynamic arts scene of local and foreign artists who for years have been inspired by the magical light of Eivissa in the wonderful Museu d’Art Contemporani d’Eivissa (MACE).
Dive into the magical atmosphere of the tiny unchanged village of Sant Carles de Peralta, a favourite with the hippies since the 1960s, set amongst the mysterious ruins of the ancient lead mines, the idyllic countryside and the amazing northeast coasts. Take a stop for a quiet drink on the paved pedestrian area, with the little artistic shops.
Enjoy one of the island’s epic sunsets at the magical Cala d’Hort bay, with a view over the citadel of Es Vedrà, a steep rocky limestone island that rises 400 metres above the Mediterranean. According to legend, the Sirens of Homer’s Odyssey lived on the island.

Explore Ibiza
Discover the island’s Moorish heritage in the small yet imposing village of Balàfia, a jewel of whitewashed cubic structures that is reminiscent of the landscapes of North Africa.
Take the catamaran to the beautiful neighbouring Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic islands. Enjoy the exotic Caribbean-like waters, peaceful virgin beaches with white sands and carefree rhythms, which make Formentera the ideal antidote to the frenetic pace of touristic Ibiza. Don’t miss the wild grandeur of the rocks of cape Cap de la Mola, with the imposing lighthouse built in 1861 and the monument to Jules Verne.
Explore the fantastic landscape of Las Salinas, one of the most important natural parks in the Mediterranean. This unique landscape is formed by salty lagoons that cover the channel that separates the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera.
Nightlife in Ibiza
Ibiza has been the Mecca of global clubbing since the 1990s until today. From June until September, everything moves to the rhythms of the famous DJs and the thousands of clubbers who come to the island from every corner of the earth to enjoy wild nights in the clubs and beach clubs of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Santa Eulalia and Ibiza.
Outside of the party planet, there are bars with romantic terraces and outdoor cafés offering visitors the chance to lounge with an amazing view of the sunset or to chill out and unwind before dinner. Relax with a glass of the local red vino de pages wine or an iced aromatic hierbas ibicencas liqueur.
Take a seat at one of the elegant tapas bars and sample the fantastic seafood delicacies and select local dishes such as Sobrasada and butifarra (spicy pork sausages), burrida de Ratjada (baked skate with a sauce made with breadcrumbs, almonds and optional garlic) and arroz (a local version of paella with rabbit and vegetables, in addition to seafood).
Shopping in Ibiza
Discover the shops with the famous Adlib fashion, the famous hippy style in its most up-to-date form, which bears the signature of young local and not only designers.
Have a look around the small, pretty boutiques, galleries and colourful stalls of the atmospheric Dalt Vila. Buy leather sandals or moccasins, espadrilles, traditional embroideries, straw bags, jewellery, paintings and works of art by local artists.
One of the greatest pleasures on Ibiza are the open-air hippy markets, which are a true spectacle. You can find everything on their stalls, from games to clothes. Take a visit to the legendary Las Dalias market in San Carlos (every Saturday), which has been open continuously since 1973. Wander around the Punta Arabi market at Es Canar (every Wednesday), the number one destination for cheap clothes and jewellery as well as fun for all the family, with food stalls and live music.
