To Jeddah
Plan your journey to Jeddah
Jeddah is the second largest and one of the most important cities in Saudi Arabia, which in recent years has become a cultural hub of the entire kingdom.
The atmosphere and buildings in Jeddah quickly make the visitor feel like a character of 1,000 and one nights. Palm trees and imposing skyscrapers rise next to traditional buildings.
The strict religious principles that apply here are not irrelevant to the geographical location of the city. Its port is still a gateway for pilgrims heading to Mecca.
Book your airline tickets to Jeddah at Olympic Air and discover the city that has preserved the charm of the old Arab world unchanged for centuries!

Sightseeing in Jeddah
The famous King Fahd's Fountain jets water at a height of 312 metres. The 500 spotlights that illuminate the water after sunset, make the spectacle amazing.
Address: Falistine Street, Corniche.
The Al-Rahma Mosque, also known as the “Floating Mosque”. It took its name first, because of its location on the coast of the Red Sea and second, because when the water level rises due to the tide, its base is covered by water.
Address: Corniche Road, Al-Shate'a.
The old city of Jeddah (al-Balad) shows clear signs of abandonment, despite being included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. However, do not miss the opportunity to wander its narrow streets to shop in the exotic souqs and to admire rare examples of Arabian architecture. The Naseef House stands out from the rest: this is a 7-storey tower that once belonged to Jeddah's most powerful merchant family. Today, the house has been renovated and functions as a museum-cultural centre.
The Al-Tayibat City Museum for International Civilization. Islamic manuscripts, old coins, furniture and ceramics are among the exhibits of the museum that stretches across 12 buildings of Islamic architecture. Its collections are spread over more than 300 rooms. Address: Rayhanat al-Jazirah St.

Things to do in Jeddah
Diving in the Red Sea. Explore its coral seabed and famous shipwrecks, like the “Chicken Wreck”. Many travel agencies in the city organise daily cruises that include scuba-diving and snorkelling.
Admire the sunset on the Corniche coastal road and dine against the backdrop of the Red Sea. The 35km-long pedestrian area serves as an outdoor glyptotheque. Walking around it, you will admire giant sculptures of the great artists Moore and Miró.
Tip: Alcohol, including alcohol-containing chocolates, religious objects of other religions, food containing pork, pornographic books, gambling and codeine-containing drugs, are banned in the country.

Entertainment in Jeddah
Saudi Arabia's religious laws prohibit the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages. There are no bars and nightclubs in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, when the night falls, usual entertainment for a night out is at a city restaurant for dinner and at a café for a mocktail (fruit juice cocktail) or a strong Arabian coffee. There are also many shisha cafés in the old town, where (only) men can smoke the aromatic water pipe.
It is impressive that shopping in Jeddah continues after sunset.
Do not leave Jeddah before tasting its fresh seafood, a privilege of the city’s location on the Red Sea, as well as Saudi Arabian local dishes such as the mataziz and the kabsa. Kabsa, the national dish of Saudi Arabia, is rice with meat and vegetables. Mataziz is lamb with vegetables accompanied by a spicy sauce.
Complete your meal or dinner with a maamoul, a delicious cookie filled with dates and peanuts or almonds and figs.
Shopping
The city is considered a heaven of malls and it is only fair, as shopping is a national hobby not only for tourists but for the locals too. The Red Sea Mall is Jeddah's most famous shopping centre. Here 240,000 square metres are dedicated to luxury shopping. However, there are also places where you can dine. The Mall also includes the five-star Elaf Jeddah Hotel and it is the place where Jeddah's first cinema operated.
For high-end shops you need to head to the expensive Tahlia district. Famous houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada are lined up on the palm-tree decorated streets. For gold product purchases head for the souq of Gabel Street. It is also where you can buy local food products, coffee and tea.
The Mall of Arabia is a go-to destination if you travel with kids, as it features a unique fun park for children, the spectacular KidZania. This shopping mall is perfect for affordable purchases from large multinational chains.
At the Al-Balad souqs of the historic city centre you will find souvenirs and local products. Drive a hard bargain with the merchants - you'll be thrilled with amount of discounts you can get.
Other impressive malls include the 11-story Corniche Commercial Centre on Jeddah Beach and the Jeddah International Shopping Centre, the city's oldest shopping mall, in the centre of which you will find a pond with fish and turtles.
At the local markets, vendors leave their posts five times a day to pray, while police arrive at the market to remind them of their duty, punishing offenders! Shops close for 30 minutes each time!
Your outfit also needs attention. They will not allow you to enter the malls if you are wearing shorts. Moreover, men are allowed to visit shops only if they feature a men's section. Finally, restaurants have separate areas for single men and different areas for women and families.
Transport to Jeddah
There is no bus connection of the airport with the city centre. Take one of the taxis available at the airport (look for the special marking) after consulting with the driver on the fare. The journey from the airport to the city centre is 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can rent a car.
