Plan your Trip to Kos
On Kos island, mixed remnants of former times, from ancient Greece, the Venetian rule and Ottoman presence, all peacefully coexist, creating a unique whole.
Palm-trees line the main seafronts, and visitors fall in love with the golden sandy beaches for ever.
Fly to Kos with Olympic Air and discover the island of Hippocrates on the edge of the Dodecanese.

Sightseeing in Kos
Visit the Asklepieion of Kos. Built on the slopes of a verdant hill, the place where the father of Medicine taught and practised is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. If you are lucky, you will see doctors from all over the world, reciting the Hippocratic oath in the sacred place, a deeply moving moment, not only for the participants but also for the lucky observers. Very close to the Asklepieion you will find a garden created by the International Hippocratic Foundation of Kos, for the cultivation of flowers and herbs of the Greek flora, which Hippocrates considered ‘’medicine’’ for all diseases.
Don’t forget to see the giant Plane Tree of Hippocrates, whose trunk has a circumference of 12 metres and is so big that it looks like a cave. According to legend, it was planted by the father of Medicine himself, who taught his pupils here in its shade.
Address: Akti Kountouriotou.
Take a trip to Plaka forest near Antimachia, planted by Italians during the 1940’s. Today the small forest is a refuge for peacocks and other kinds of birds. You will also be impressed by Zia forest (in the mountain village of the same name), perfect for taking a walk-in nature (tel. +30 6973591722, info@kosnaturalpark.gr
It is worth visiting the town’s Archaeological Museum housed in the building left behind by the Italian administration, which stands majestically in Eleftherias Square, as well as the Folk Museum of Antimachia, in an old rural stone house of Antimachia.

You will also be impressed by the Casa Romana, a Roman villa, discovered by Italians in 1933 when a major earthquake demolished Kos. The Italians carried out extensive excavations knowing that they would find monuments from the Hellenistic period. And so, they brought back to life a unique ancient Roman residence. More or less the same happened with the Roman Odeon of Kos.
Address: Grigoriou V Avenue.
Go and see the Medieval castle of Kos, otherwise known as Neratzia castle, standing at the entrance to the town. Stop to take photographs of the amazing Castle bridge, that connects the square of the Plane tree to the castle entrance.

Beaches
Kos has a beach to suit every taste, from busy organised ones to quiet and isolated, with pebbles, gravel or golden sand and blue or turquoise waters. This is why around 1,000,000 visitors from all over the world flock there every year. Kos is the island with the most kilometres of gentle coastline, perhaps in the whole of the Mediterranean!
Among the most well-known beaches are Cavo Paradisο, Agios Theologos, Agios Stefanos, Lambi, Karnagio, Psalidi, Therma, Kamari, Limnionas and Marmari, most of which offer opportunities for diving as well as for all kinds of water sports, including jet skiing, surfing and sailing.
