Olympic Air’s sponsorship program to the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) was officially announced today, June 6th, 2012, at a ceremony at the headquarters of HOC by Mr. Andreas Vgenopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Marfin Investment Group (MIG), mother company of Olympic Air, and Mr. Spyros Capralos, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
The event was to mark the transportation of the Hellenic Olympic team to London, with a special Olympic Air flight on July 23rd, 2012, for the participation in the Olympic Games.Mr. Andreas Vgenopoulos in his speech said:

"Olympic Air is not just another airline. It is a national symbol, a national emotion, an ethnic heritage. From their childhood, all Greeks feel deeply connected with Olympic. Its real owner is the Greek people. Just the last three years it belongs to MIG. Everyone in the Group believes that it was obvious for Olympic Air to support the work of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and we are all happy to materialize this cooperation, which has started since 2009. Our promise is to continue to assist the HOC, which is so important for sports and culture. We may live at critical times, but despite any adverse developments, we ensure that we will continue our support."

Mr. Spyros Kapralos said: "So far, 92 athletes will go to the Games in London and that number is likely to increase even further if we calculate that some qualifications are still pending. All these athletes, along with their coaches, representatives of associations and members of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, will fly with Olympic Air, on 23rd  July, to the British capital. And they will return with the Olympic wings on 13th August, hopefully with excess baggage, due to the weight of the medals to be won, having made proud all Greeks with their ethics, effort and achievements.I want to thank Olympic Air, which stood by the Hellenic Olympic Committee since the beginning of our efforts. Particularly I would like to thank for the aircraft which was available to us during the Olympic Torch Relay, with a special flight to border island Kastellorizo, carrying the sacred flame with the Olympic message of peace and brotherhood of peoples. Particularly, I would like to thank Andreas Vgenopoulos for his valuable help and full support to our work. Besides, he is a sportsman himself, having participated in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, in the sport of fencing, and he is particularly sensitive, since he knows very well the dreams, anxieties and all hard work of athletes."

Olympic Air, as official sponsor of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, will carry the athletes of the Hellenic Olympic team to London. On July 23rd all the athletes who will have secured their participation in the Games will be flying with Olympic Air to London. And after the closing ceremony on August 13th, the same aircraft will carry them back to Athens.
Since 2009, when Olympic Air opened its wings, all Greek athletes who participated in games and pre-Olympic tournaments, fly with our aircraft.
