In Ikaria, the visitor can enjoy fresh fish in practically every restaurant. Fish is usually grilled, like well-known local delicacies such as herring and smoky anchovy fillet grilled with onions, peppers and tomatoes. Some dishes worth trying are the chickpea and courgette balls, usually accompanied by “Pramneio” wine. Another of the island’s specialties is stuffed tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and potatoes, filled with rice, herbs and spices. Delicious pies, made by housewives are on many tavernas’ menus, with “fouskopita”, containing green peppers and melted local cheese, on top of the taste list.


For coffee or drinks by the seaside, go to the bars of Armenistis, but if you prefer mountain views, you should seek the nightlife of the village of Raches.
