VILLAGES

Aghios Kirykos is the capital and the island’s major port. It is a picturesque small town, boasting of impressive merchant mariners’ homes of centuries past. Evdilos, the island’s second port, attracts more visitors during the summer months. Other villages worth visiting are Armenistis, in the more frequented northernmost part of the island; the picturesque fishing village of Gialiskari and the spa resort of Therma. This spa town, known since antiquity, at a distance of 2 km from Agios Kyrikos, offers water cures. Near Therma, visit the ruins of the ancient fortified Acropolis on Drakano peninsula.

RACHES

Your visit to Ikaria cannot be complete without having experienced “Ikartia time”. The inhabitants of Raches personify this trait, refusing to open their shops before sunset. Marvel at the lush forest, surrounding the village, offering rare views of the distant sea. Walk in Raches’ cobblestoned alleys and notice the refined local architectural style, the quaint churches, the creative souvenir shops and the 15th century monastery of Evaggelistria.

TAVROPOLION (CITY OF THE BULLS) OR NAS

This ancient city was -according to mythology- the Naiads’ home. One of ancient Greece’s most famous temples dedicated to Tavropolios Artemis, stood there once. The waterfront and the temple sanctuary’s floor survive today. The site is located west of Armenistis.
