Kefalonian cuisine takes good advantage of locally sourced meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. The island’s specialties are the pies, aliada, riganada and bourbourelia (spicy pea soup). In the tavernas and ouzo bars in Fiskardo, you will enjoy unique flavours in a cosmopolitan environment. Prices are a little high, but the quality does not disappoint. The most popular restaurant is “Tasia’s fish tavern” serving local specialties and fresh fish and “Vaso’s”, well known for its lobster and fresh salads. “Platanos” in Assos stands out for its meat variety and fresh vegetables. Ask for homemade meat pie, Kefalonian cod pie and braised rabbit. In Argostoli, “Porta” offers ethnic dishes for those looking for variety. In “Captain’s table”, enjoy live music, good food and views of the city. In Lassi, taste local dishes in “Psito” and “Sirtaki”. In Lixouri, traditional dishes and grilled food are a specialty of “Lottos”, as well as of “Antonis”, “Akrogiali” and “Maria”.


With a population of over 35,000 and an important tourist influx, Kefalonia enjoys a lively nightlife, particularly in Argostoli and Fiskardo. Try the atmospheric café-bar “Irida” in Fiskardo, or the trendy dance club “Bass” in Argostoli. A special note in the nightlife of the island are the alternatives provided by highly popular religious festivals or the wild all night parties hosted by cosmopolitan beach bars.
