Kos is the third largest island in the Dodecanese and one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations. The hospitable inhabitants, who have wisely and timely preserved the island’s natural beauty and its many cultural sights, offer a perfect holiday, replete with cosmopolitan atmosphere, beautiful beaches, quaint villages, historical sites and infrastructure of high standard, attested by the excellent bicycle lane network. What more can anyone ask for?
The whole island, birthplace and home of Hippocrates, father of modern medicine, reminds the visitor of an outdoor museum, with dozens of ancient and medieval monuments in its every corner. It is worth renting a bike, like many visitors do, and wander in the town of Kos town and the island’s other villages.
Notwithstanding the fortress’ impressive charm, the visitor will be awed by the numerous archaeological sites, literally strewn around town. According to contemporary sources, the town of Kos was one of Classical Antiquity’s most beautiful seaside cities.
