LITTLE VENICE AND THE LOWER MILLS

In Little Venice or Scarpa, rich captains built their house directly on the sea. Notice the porticos at sea level. From these openings, unscrupulous homeowners cooperated with local pirates, unloading contraband goods for sale on the island. On the town’s other side, the white windmills stand guard over the sea and Chora’s Southern outskirts. The mills have ceased their tireless toil since the early 20th century.

FOLK ART MUSEUM

The residence of Nicholas Malouchos dominates the castle’s ruins, holding within its walls the pirate Mermelecha’s drinking well. The collection showcases everyday objects and the way of life of the island’s bourgeoisie. Displayed at the museum you will find vintage furniture, ancient tools and ceramic works, old photographs as well as traditional musical instruments.

PARAPORTIANI

This unique five church complex (Aghioi Anargyroi, Agios Efstathios, Agios Sozon, Agia Anastasia, Panagia) with their whitewashed surfaces shining in the sun, create one of Greece’s iconic images. Call the local Municipality (T:+302289022201) to visit treasure inside the churches.
