Coming down from Apeiranthos to Moutsouna beach the views are majestic. En route you will notice overhead the suspended railway, an important industrial monument of the 1920s, 3 kilometres in length, designed to carry emery ore from Koronos to the port of Moutsouna. Emery is an intensely hard rock, on the export of which the island’s economy rested at the time.

In the villages of Apeiranthos and Filoti, Carnival in February is celebrated according to Dionysian rites, the “koudounatoi” and “foustanelatoi”. The “Dionyssia” annual festival hosts various cultural events, while in the impressive Medieval Bazeos tower, concerts are regularly held. On the 15th of August, religious festivals are held throughout the island, with the all night Apeiranthos festivities in the 18th century church being the most lively.
