Samos enjoys a regular connection to Kusandasi, on the Turkish shore. The two hour trip will give you the opportunity to visit the immense Kusandasi bazaar as well one of the Mediterranean’s most important archaeological sites: Ephesus with its marvellously preserved ancient theatre and library. Don’t forget to bring your passport!

The variety encountered in the villages of the island of Samos is truly exceptional. In the mountainous and verdant Manolates you’ll enjoy long walks in narrow alleys and have a drink under ancient oak trees with a view of the sea. In picturesque Kokkari, have a coffee on the beach, while in neighbouring Mana, visit the orchid plantation. In Marathokampos, swim in the peaceful beach and climb up to the Evaggelistria monastery for its impregnable view.

Famed throughout antiquity for its wines, Samos retains this noble tradition in its widely acclaimed White Muscat variety. Produced by the local cooperative, the variety has been awarded numerous international prizes. Try local honey, ouzo, olive oil and aromatic soap, while in the town’s music instrument shop you can purchase an authentic bouzouki. Many shops dealing in folk art (Kontoroudas for ceramics, T +30 22730 33849) can be found in the town’s streets.
