Discover the city of Preveza

Built on a peninsula located between the Ionian Sea and the Ambracian Gulf on the southwest edge of Epirus and framed by endless olive groves, Preveza is a sweet surprise for the visitor, with its island aura, magical nature and historical culture. Its strategic position is imprinted upon its name, which means “pass” or “crossing”, and in the region’s turbulent history. Figures such as Octavian Augustus, Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius as well as the poet Kostas Karyotakis, and the Venetian, French and Ottoman conquerors left their mark here. One can still find the remnants of past times in its Venetian castles, the atmospheric lanes of the Old Town with its lovely 19th-century mansions, the old churches and aristocratic neoclassical buildings of the pier with a view over the tall masts of the sail boats, and in the customs and traditions of its people. From the wonderful site of ancient Nicopolis and its mysterious Necromanteion of Acheron to heroic Zalongo, the hinterland of Preveza is adorned with historic monuments and wetlands of great ecological value.
The richly changing landscapes and images are complemented by the magical coastline of Preveza, as far as cosmopolitan Parga, a paradise of exotic beaches, idyllic small gulfs and pine forests that are reflected in the blue-green waters of the Ionian Sea.

Authentic, refined and low key, Preveza is a charming destination full of surprises that are a delight to discover.
