Electronic cigarettes

You can carry electronic cigarettes including e-cigars and other personal vaporizers containing batteries, for personal use, in your carry-on baggage only. It is prohibited to include electronic cigarettes in checked baggage.

Recharging of these devices and/or batteries on board the aircraft is not permitted and you must take measures to prevent accidental activation.

Spare/loose batteries, including lithium batteries, non-spillable batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries and dry batteries for portable electronic devices (articles which have the primary purpose as a power source, e.g. lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries; power banks are considered as spare batteries as well) must be individually protected to prevent short circuits by placing them in the original retail packaging or by otherwise insulating terminals, e.g. by taping over exposed terminals or placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch, and carried in carry-on baggage only.

In addition, lithium batteries are subject to the following conditions:

For spare/loose batteries: Each person is limited to a maximum of 20 spare batteries with a Watt-hour rating up to 100 Wh or with a lithium content up to 2g.

Non spillable batteries must be 12 V or less and 100Wh or less. Each person is limited to a maximum of 2 spare batteries.

Passengers may carry lithium portable electronic devices and spare batteries up  to 160Whs or lithium content up to 8gs, only with prior approval of the operator.

For batteries installed in a device (portable electronic devices, including personal medical devices, such as nebulisers, portable oxygen concentrators:
a) The Watt-hour rating of lithium ion batteries must be up to 100.
b) The lithium metal content of lithium metal batteries must be up to 2 g.

Recharging of batteries and the use of power banks on board are not permitted.

Self-balancing devices

AEGEAN and Olympic Air do not accept for transportation any type of self-balancing device, neither as cabin baggage nor as checked baggage.

Smart bags

AEGEAN and Olympic Air do not accept smart bags with non-removable lithium batteries (exceeding 0.3g of lithium metal or 2.7Wh) as cabin or checked baggage on any flight.

Smart bags with removable batteries will be accepted if the battery is removed and carried separately in the cabin (up to 100Wh if the battery is lithium ion or up to 2g if the battery is lithium metal).

Any blunt object capable of causing injury, including:

• Baseball and softball bats
• Clubs or batons - rigid or flexible - e.g. truncheons, night sticks and batons
• Cricket bats
• Golf clubs
• Hockey sticks
• Lacrosse sticks
• Kayak and canoe paddles
• Skateboards
• Billiard cues
• Fishing rods
• Martial arts equipment, e.g. knuckle dusters, clubs, coshes, rice flails, num chucks, kubatons, kubasaunts.

Any item capable, or appearing capable, of firing a projectile or causing injury. 

Including:

• Any firearm (pistols, revolvers, rifles, hunting guns, shotguns etc.)
• Replicas and imitations of firearms
• Parts of firearms (with the exception of telescopic sights and aiming lenses)
• Air pistols, air rifles and pellet guns
• Flare pistols
• Starter pistols
• Toy guns of any kind
• Learners' guns
• Industrial bolt and nail guns
• Crossbows
• Slings
• Harpoon guns
• Slaughterhouse guns
• Cigarette lighters shaped like a firearm.

Pointed or bladed items capable of causing injury, including:

• Small and large axes
• Arrows and darts
• Hooks
• Harpoons and spears
• Icepicks
• Ice-skates
• Pocket-knives or stilettos with any length of blade
• Knives, including ceremonial knives, with blades longer than 6cm, of metal or any other hard material capable of being used as weapons
• Meat cleaver
• Hatchets
• Machetes
• Cutthroat razors and razor-blades (with the exception of safety blades or disposable razors, with blades in a case) sabres, swords and swordsticks
• Scalpels
• Scissors with blades longer than 6cm
• Ski and walking/hiking poles
• Throwing stars (shuriken)
• Professional or working tools which might serve as pointed or sharp-edged weapons, e.g. drills and bits, box cutters, kitchen knives, saws of any kind, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, spanners and wrenches, blow-torches.

Foodstuffs in semi-solid or liquid form, especially olive oil must be suitably packed in wooden cases with absorbent material to avoid any leakage which might cause damage to the property of others. Please note that Olive Oil can only be transported as Cargo. If carrying food, you should also bear in mind regulations limiting the importing of foodstuffs that may apply in various states.

If you wish to transport bottled wine in your checked baggage (and not in your cabin baggage) you must use special wineskins, separately for each bottle. Wineskins are made of plastic bubble wrap, cover the entire bottle and are leak proof. 

Otherwise, if you wish to transport your bottled wine in a separate case you are requested to place it in: a) a wooden case containing absorbent material (woodchips or fabric cloth); or b) a cardboard box with custom-fitted Styrofoam inner packaging. The cost for transporting the separate case depends on the selected fare. 

The transport of unbottled wine is not allowed.

Any chemical or toxic substance which might endanger the health of passengers and crew, or the safety, in any way, of the aircraft or personal items carried thereon. Including:

• Acids and alkalis, e.g. wet-cell batteries
• Corrosive or bleaching substances - e.g. mercury, chlorine
• Disabling or incapacitating sprays, e.g. Mace spray, pepper spray, tear gas
• Radioactive material e.g. isotopes for medical or commercial use
• Poisons, Infectious or biologically hazardous material - e.g. contaminated blood, bacteria and viruses
• Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion

Any explosive or highly flammable material which might endanger the health of passengers and crew or the safety, in all respects, of the aircraft or personal items carried thereon. Including:

• Ammunition
• Blasting caps
• Detonators and fuses
• Explosives and explosive devices
• Replicas or imitations of explosive materials or devices
• Mines or other military explosives
• Grenades of all kinds
• Gases and gas cylinders, e.g. butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen - in large volume
• Fireworks, flares in any form and other pyrotechnics (including party poppers and toy caps
• Non-safety matches
• Smoke grenades or cartridges
• Flammable liquid fuel, e.g. petrol, diesel, lighter fuel, alcohol, ethanol
• Paint spray cans
• Turpentine and paint thinners
• Alcoholic drinks with more than 70% alcohol content (140% proof). However, packages containing alcoholic beverages of up to 5 litres with an alcohol content between 24%-70% are permitted.
• Weapons designed to stun or cause electric shock, e.g. cattle prods, taser guns
• Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives 

Aegean and Olympic Air do not accept for transportation any type of Self-Balancing device, neither as cabin baggage nor as checked baggage.
The reason is that almost all of these self-balancing boards include and operate with lithium type batteries.

The term of “self-balancing devices” is used to describe all portable one or two-wheeled board vehicles with a rechargeable powered battery. They usually consist of two (or one) wheel(s) arranged side by side, joined together by two small platforms on which the rider stands. The device is controlled by the rider’s feet standing on the built-in censored pads and is usually used for recreational purposes.

These devices come in various product names and the name mainly depends on the company that distributes them. Therefore you may find or hear them as:
