Allowed Baggage Limits

For all airline travel, preparation and transportation of our luggage can be a pleasant process and a significant element for a pleasant vacation, if we are correctly organized.

You should know:

  • If a trip is cancelled, the respective prepayment for overweight and/or additional baggage charges will be reimbursed.

Hand luggage and essentials

Before you start packing your cabin baggage, please make sure that you know what your size and weight limits are. Be aware that any additional or oversized items may be subject to charges.

You may carry on board, free of charge:

One carry-on bag that must:

  • not exceed 55cm x 40cm x 23cm in dimension (including handles, pockets and wheels)
  • not exceed 8kg in weight
  • fit into our baggage sizer
  • fit and can be lifted by the passenger into the overhead bin
  • not include any dangerous goods, unless permitted for carriage
  • be big enough to fit any duty free or airport purchases

plus

One personal item (women's /men's handbag or thin laptop case or medium-sized backpack), that must fit under the seat in front of you

  • If your cabin baggage is of excessive weight / dimensions and cannot be stored in this manner, or is considered unsafe for any reason, it must be checked in as hold baggage.
  • All additional items such us, overcoat, umbrella, small camera, or bag of duty free items must be carried within your cabin baggage! In any other case, your additional item will be counted as extra piece and you will be charged accordingly
  • For infants (0-2 years of age) you are allowed one baggage up to 6 kilos maximum dimensions 55x40x23cm with the necessities for their nutrition and hygiene, depending on the flight duration. as well as one collapsible stroller.
  • Cabin baggage allowance for children (between 2-11 years) is the same as for adults. Children, over the age of 2, travelling are also entitled to one collapsible stroller

For flights operated with AEGEAN fleet (A319, A320 and A321):

Economy class
You may carry on board, free of charge:

One (1) carry-on bag that must, not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm in dimension (including handles, pockets and  wheels) and  8kg in weight and fit in the overhead bin

plus

One (1) personal item (women's /men's handbag or thin laptop case or medium-sized backpack), that must fit under the seat in front of you

Business class
You may carry on board, free of charge:

Two (2) carry-on bags of which the first may not be larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (or 20cm and the second no larger than 45cm x 35cm x 20cm. The first item must not exceed 8 kg in weight, and the second may not exceed 5 kg. Both items must fit in the overhead bin.

One (1) personal item
(women's /men's handbag or thin laptop case or medium-sized backpack), that must be able to be stowed under the seat in front of you

What can I carry with me?

  • Liquid items, in individual containers with a capacity no more than 100 ml. must be contained in transparent plastic re-sealable bags with maximum capacity that does not exceed 1 litre. This plastic re-sealable bag is limited to one per passenger and must be sealed and delivered to Security Screening separately for examination.
  • You may be requested to provide proof indicating the need for liquids required for medical or dietary purposes and baby foods be used during the flight.
  • Products that are sold in shops beyond the Security Screening points (Duty Free Shops). These products should be placed in a special sealed bag. This special sealed bag, which should be provided by the shop, must not be opened before you are screened - otherwise the contents may be confiscated at the checkpoint. All these liquids are additional to the quantities in the re-sealable plastic bag mentioned above.

Security screening staff is obliged to ask you to dispose of any liquid products that do not comply with the conditions of the new European Regulation. Such items will be sent for recycling as useless.

What I cannot carry with me?

  • Weapons and in general any item which is or might appear to be capable of firing a projectile or causing injury, such as: parts of firearms, replicas and imitations of weapons such as toy air guns or any kind of pistols or pellet guns, launchers of any kind, harpoon guns or any device designed to immobilize or administer electric shock.
  • Pointed or sharp objects of any kind or material capable of causing injury, such as: penknives, stilettos, knives, axes, arrows, scalpels, scissors or any other sharp or pointed tool or household item.
  • Any blunt instrument capable of causing injury, such as: sporting bats, clubs, canes and rackets of any kind, oars, billiard cues, fishing rods, martial arts equipment

Any such items found will be confiscated by the airport authorities; the company accepts no responsibility for their return to passengers, nor can there be any question of compensation being paid in the event of loss. Items of the sort described may be carried only in the baggage checked in by customers for carriage in the hold.

Important notes regarding hand baggage:

Due to limited aircraft cabin capacity for hand baggage stowing you may be instructed to do the following: 

  • If your carry-on baggage is within the allowable limits but there is not sufficient space in the cabin, you will be asked to check it for free carriage in the hold. This procedure takes place at the time of boarding the aircraft. You will then be given a baggage claim receipt, you will not be charged and you can collect your bag at the baggage claim carousel at your destination airport. You should make sure to first remove any objects that are unsuitable for transport in the cargo hold (e.g. laptops, cameras, etc.) before checking in the bag.  
  • Any item that exceeds the carry-on baggage size and weight limits, will be checked in to your final destination  and checked baggage charges will apply. In this case, you will be given a baggage claim receipt and you can collect your bag at the baggage claim carousel at your destination airport. You should also make sure to first remove any objects that are unsuitable for transport in the cargo hold (e.g. laptops, cameras, etc.) before checking in the bag.

The baggage-carrying policy on AEGEAN flights from/to Saudi Arabia and Iran is based on the weight concept. Please refer to the tables below for detailed information on the number and weight of bags you are permitted to carry.

Passengers may purchase additional baggage directly from their travel agent, Olympic Air's website and Mobile Site, the call center or at the airport. In case somebody wishes to purchase additional baggage through Olympic Air's Call Center, at a time other than that of ticket issuance, a service fee of €8 per passenger will apply. Pre-purchase is possible up to 2 hours prior to departure. Please note that these charges are up to 43% lower than the amount charged in the event payment is made at the airport.

What can I carry with me if I am traveling with an infant?

For infants (0-2 years of age) you are also allowed one hand baggage up to 6 kilos maximum dimensions 55x40x23cm with the necessities for their nutrition and hygiene, depending on the flight duration. as well as one collapsible stroller.
For children (2-12 years of age) you are also allowed one hand baggage up to 8 kilos maximum dimensions 55x40x23cm.  Children, over the age of 2, travelling are also entitled to one collapsible stroller 

 “Baggage” is the suitcase, bag or case, which holds a traveler’s articles during his trip. The traveler can be expected to carry clothing, toiletries, small possessions and trip necessities.

What can I carry with me?

The following items should not be in checked baggage, but should be carried by the passenger in hand luggage:

  • medicine
  • jewelry
  • money
  • insurance documents
  • passports
  • Identification
  • professional documents
  • negotiable papers
  • deeds
  • documents
  • precious metals
  • computers
  • personal electronic devices
  • bills
  • keys
  • glasses
  • samples
  • other valuable/fragile items

No liability lies with the air carrier for items attached to the baggage. If you wish to transport in your baggage or as baggage, item(s) that cannot be defined as baggage or are not among the expected baggage contents according to the definition of baggage in the relevant section, you must state it upon check in. In this case, you will be required to sign a document stating that the transportation is under your responsibility (Limited Release Form).

This baggage policy applies only on flights operated by Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air aircraft.
For flights from/to Greece to/from Saudi Arabia and Iran the purchase of additional kilos is 10€/12USD/kilo (including infants) issued only at the airport with airport charges.

Important clarifications:
Passengers may purchase additional baggage directly from their travel agent, Aegean’s website and Mobile Site, the call center or at the airport. In case somebody wishes to purchase additional baggage through Aegean's Call Center, at a time other than that of ticket issuance, a service fee of €8 per passenger will apply. Pre-purchase is possible up to 2 hours prior to departure. Please note that these charges are up to 70% lower than the amount charged in the event payment is made at the airport.
Baggage weighing over 32kg cannot be accepted - It must be sent as cargo.




Transportation of Pet

Disposable pet boxes are available in domestic airports if you do not have your own. The maximum weight of the pet and the box combined must not exceed 8 kilos. The pet box can be transported only as cabin luggage and should be placed under the seat.

  • PETC: Weight in kilos refers to the weight of the pet and the weight of the pet carrier/container with maximum dimensions 40x25x25.
  • Pet transportation in the baggage area of live animals is not offered on Olympic Air Flights.
  • Charges apply per route (direction) and container.
  • If you wish to transfer your pet you must contact the Reservations Department at least 48 hours prior to departure, in order to register the pet and (if possible) to confirm its carriage, as the number of pets allowed on each flight is limited.
